Uttar Pradesh: MBBS admissions in Uttar Pradesh is based on the NEET UG entrance exam. This year, NEET-UG was conducted for 1,872,341 applicants at different centers located in 499 cities across the country, including 14 cities outside India, on 07 May 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. (India Standard Time) .
Candidates who qualify for the NEET are only eligible for counseling. These applicants must be Indian citizens aged 17 as of 31.12.2023. They will have passed 10+2 with a recognized board.
The Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) is responsible for conducting the counseling and admissions process for MBBS admission statewide. The management facilitates comprehensive medical and dental education through various medical, dental and paramedical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. Research is another area of interest for this directorate.
The counseling process usually takes place in 4 rounds (round 1, round 2, cleaning and spot round). The spot round only takes place if seats remain vacant after the first 3 rounds. Each counseling cycle is a separate cycle and the rules for each cycle are different. Once a cycle begins, the rules for that cycle will apply to all applicants, even if assigned/admitted in previous counseling cycles.

The National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET-UG) has been conducted by the NTA since 2019 for admission to undergraduate medical education, with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the MHRD. This test is carried out once a year in India and abroad.
