Abstract
Over the past decade, it has become clear that the health sector is not only threatened by climate change, but also a major polluter of greenhouse gases. In November 2021, the World Health Organization and partners launched the COP26 health agenda for sustainable, climate-resilient, low-carbon health systems, and have since created the Alliance for Transformative Action on climate and health to support its implementation. Given the wide variation in health financing, carbon emissions and unmet health needs around the world, an equitable sharing of the remaining carbon budget and health gains will be essential.
